Wage Laws
There are specific standards set by the Department of Labor regarding wages and work hours that have to be adhered to by employers. Though they may vary from state to state, they follow these rules and regulations to ensure employees work only the maximum allowed per day and that they get paid the proper rate per hour based on their industry of employment. There are however exemptions form the set minimum wage rates specified for people who may have different pay rates such as executives and other employees who may have more than the set minimum wage. Fair pay is the aim of the laws contained within the Department of Labor’s FairPay provisions.Overtime pay is given to all employees who go over the prescribed 40 hour workweek as declared by law set at 1/2 regular pay. The exemption from munimum wage has no effect on employees who may be earning more than $455 or more. It also has no bearing whatsoever to the rank of the employee or level within the organization.
